The History

I completely plagiarized (well, not really) this from another blog this morning. It is an exactly accurate historical summary of why we are where we are. Liberal Democrat social engineering that has hurt the country in the worst possible way. Enjoy.

Brief history of the financial crisis:

1977: Jimmy Carter (D) signs the Community Reinvestment Act, guaranteeing home loans to low-income families.

1999: Bill Clinton (D) puts the CRA on steroids, pushing Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to increase the number of sub-prime loans.

2003: The White House calls Fannie and Freddie “a systemic risk.” The Bush administration pushes Congress to enact new regulations.

2003: Barney Frank (D-CN) says F&F are “not in a crisis.” He bashes Republicans for crying wolf and calls F&F “financially sound.” Democrats block the Republican-sponsored regulation legislation.

2005: Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan voices a warning over F&F accounting. “We are placing the total financial system of the future at a substantial risk.

2005: Sen. Charles Schumer, (D-NY) says “…I think Fannie and Freddie over the years have done an incredibly good job and are an intrinsic part of making America the best-housed people in the world …if you look over the last 20 or whatever years, they’ve done a very, very good job.”

2006: Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) again calls for reform. “For years I have been concerned about the regulatory structure that governs Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac … and the sheer magnitude of these companies and the role they play in the marketplace … the GSE’s (government sponsored enterprises) need to be reformed without delay.”

2006: Democrats again block reform legislation.2008: housing market collapses; Democrats blame the Republicans!

2008: Housing market collapses bringing down the economy with it.

2009: America ushers in an era of big government, big spending, and out-of-control government.

Republican Prosecutor Joe Deters

Cincinnati woke up this morning to the story about the arrest of a man in Mexico for brutally murdering 4 innocent people in Sharonville in 2007. The story properly gave credit to the dogged determination of Hamilton County Prosecutor Joe Deters in tracking down this vicious killer. To read about Joe's work on this case and how he never gave up, click here.

Over the last year, I watched closely as Joe traveled to Mexico and to Washington, D.C. (as was reported in the story) to push for the man who committed these horrendous crimes to be brought to justice. I had no doubt he would prevail.

Too often, Republicans forget to stop and appreciate how great Republicans are making a difference in our community. We're too busy pointing our fingers. Joe's work on behalf of these 4 innocent men in Sharonville is a testament to what a great Prosecutor he is. Great work, Joe!

Cincinnati Tea Party

I will be attending the Cincinnati Tea Party on Fountain Square today at 11:30 p.m. Join us!

The organizers of the Tea Party have been very clear that their movement is non-partisan. I'm going as a citizen and as Chairman of the Party that most often, although not often enough, supports the mission of the Tea Party. The Tea Party movement appears to be about 3 things: "Fiscal Responsibility, Limited Government, Free Markets." Our Republican Party ought to be about these things. We certainly defend these ideals more than the Democrats.
See you on the Square!

Happy Palm Sunday, etc.

I hope everyone has a very nice Palm Sunday today. Oh, and for those of you who celebrate Easter today, Happy Easter!

And...

Rob Portman has raised $3 million so far in his quest to succeed Sen. Voinovich in the United States Senate. Is anyone surprised by this? Not me. Rob Portman is the gold-standard in politics and his knowledge of issues combined with his tremendous political skill make him a great national Republican leader. Rob is working very hard across our state to raise money and to prepare for a tremendous 2010 campaign. Rob clearly "won" the first test of this long campaign by beating everyone in fundraising nearly 2 to 1. Way to go Rob! To read the Enquirer story about Rob's fundraising, click here.

And...

Our course on Social Networking has received a very strong response. Click here to read about it and e-mail Maggie at maggien@hc-gop.org to participate.

And...

Our Precinct Power Program is getting organized and off to a great start. We have identified our 50 "power precincts" where we believe we can get enhanced Republican turnout and we are now getting information to those precinct executives. Pat Fischer, the Chairman of the Precinct Power Program, is preparing our training manual and has been instrumental in getting this program moving. We can make a difference in elections in Hamilton County one precinct at a time.

And...

Our Committee 2010 is poised to meet again soon to continue its work of identifying future leaders in our party and enhancing their chances of winning races in Hamilton County. I am confident that this committee can help us identify strategies to help our "farm team" in the outlying townships, cities and villages win races everywhere.

And...

I had breakfast with the co-chair of our Republican Leadership Council, Catherine Smith Mills, last week. Catherine is doing great work for the Council and that group is instrumental to our Youth Outreach effort including our scholarship program. Special thanks to Catherine and her entire group for their hard work.

And...

George Zamary and Amy Murray, two new faces to the GOP ticket for city council, will be on 55KRC's City Talk Radio tonight from 7:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. I will join them. Tune in to hear about their vision for the city.

And...

Tough loss for the Miami Redhawks last night in the Frozen Four.

And...

Make sure to attend the Cincinnati Tea Party on tax day, Wednesday, April 15 at 11:30 on Fountain Square. I will be there to support this group. Although this group is officially non-partisan, I believe that the future of our party is with those who seek to promote a fiscally conservative agenda for government. Our leaders in Washington need to continue to be the voices of fiscally sanity, and the GOP will once again lead the country.

And...

Have a great Sunday!

You Can't Handle the Truth

The Democratic Party, many in the media, and far too many Americans are simply not being told the truth about something very important. President George W. Bush is not the reason many people around the world dislike Americans!

What do I mean?

Has America forgotten that the vicious attacks of September 11, 2001 occurred exactly 8 months into the Bush Presidency? Can anyone reasonably say that those terrorists planned this massive attack because of something President Bush did in foreign policy? No way.

Does anyone remember the campaign for the presidency of 2000? The issues Bush ran on were mainly domestic. What had Bush done 8 months into his presidency to cause the attacks of 9/11? NOTHING.

Somehow, President Obama and many in the media have us believing that we are hated around the world because of President Bush. That is NONSENSE.

They hated us before President Bush took office!

The recent worldwide apology tour completed by President Obama was enough to make me sick. His international tour was an embarrassment to the greatest country in the history of the world and was disrespectful to the Presidency. President Obama bowing to a foreign King was the last straw. (yes, the President bowed, click here). That amateurish bow was exactly why this man was unfit to be elected. He is an appeaser.

The truth? America is a superpower with influence in every corner of the world. We had it before 9/11 and we'll likely still have it after this rookie President leaves office. Our power makes us a target and leaves many people across the globe resentful of what we do. There is nothing President Obama can do to change that.

America can only have peace through strength. I am concerned that President Obama will learn this lesson the hard way and only after a major attack on our people and our interests.

Congratulations to Brian Redden

Congratulations to attorney Brian Redden for winning the Hamilton County GOP NCAA Bracket Challenge! We are working to schedule Brian for his free lunch soon.

Brian Redden is an attorney with Beckman Weil Shepardson in Cincinnati. To read about Brian, click here.

A very proud Musketeer fan, Brian has had a great year rooting on his Muskies and now winning our bracket challenge. I'll look forward to buying him lunch where I'm sure we'll be discussing Sean Miller's replacement.

Thanks to all who participated in our inaugural Bracket Challenge. It was a great success with almost 200 participants.

The internship requires 40 hours of work a week both inside and outside of the office throughout the summer and 10 hours of work a week from the beginning of the school year until the November Election!

Opening Day!

I think Opening Day in Cincinnati ought to be an official "day off." The celebration of our city, our baseball history, and the coming of spring is just a very special day for Cincinnati.

I'll be off enjoying the game and I think you should, too.

Have a great day!

What Does She Want To Do When She Grows Up?

I had to laugh yesterday when I saw the announcement that perennial Democratic candidate Martha Good has now announced her candidacy for Cincinnati City Council. It seems her name pops up on the ballot for some government position every single year. Is this former professor that desperate to get a government paycheck?

The Cincinnati Enquirer blog rightly highlights her many and differing career aspirations. Read that by clicking here.

Here is a list of the various job she has pursued in the last 5 years:

2009: Announces run for Cincinnati City Council.

2008: Lost election to Republican Patricia Clancy in the clerk of courts race.

2007: Got the endorsement of the Democratic party to run for school board, but didn't make the November ballot because she didn't have the required 200 signatures on her petitions.

2006: Didn't run herself, but managed the losing campaign of her friend Eve Bolton, who challenged Dale Mallory in the Democratic primary in the 32nd Ohio House District.

2005: Ran for Hamilton County Municipal Court judge and lost to Republican Russell Mock.

2004: Ran for Hamilton County clerk of courts and lost to Republican Greg Hartmann.

So, in this time span, the professor has wanted to be Clerk of Courts, Judge, a school board member, Clerk of Courts (again), and now on the Cincinnati City Council.

It certainly is not unusual in politics to see people in public service seek different positions. But, there is typically some sense to that track and I would like to believe that there are some people who pursue political office because of a calling to serve the public trust--not just to collect a government paycheck.

With Ms. Good, it is hard to understand her motivation beyond her desire to simply be in a political office of some kind. Does she want to be a Judge? Or, does she care about childhood education? Does she want to administer the clerk's office? Or, now, does she want to serve on the Cincinnati City Council?

In fairness, I've met Ms. Good and she seems cordial and professional. But, I also believe that her motivation is to bring her strongly held liberal Democratic ideology to some government position, somewhere, regardless of her experience or preparedness to do the job. That is not in the public's interest.
